Tratos – A Sustainable Strategy

Tratos – A Sustainable Strategy

Tratos – A Sustainable Strategy

On this weeks show I am delighted to be joined by Maurizio Bragagni, CEO of Tratos Group. We discuss the fact that whilst many businesses are looking at their sustainability strategy and how to get started, there are great examples of family owned businesses that have a fully embedded sustainable strategy that we can all learn from.

Live in your Community

Maurizio explains that Tratos have always been active in the communities within which they establish a presence.

This means that they live in the communities, they pay local taxes and they support local causes. This helps to create a culture within the business that enshrines the family values, that lives the mission of what they are trying to achieve.

During the COVID pandemic they have been able to support employees as they would their own family. We also hear about how the decision to expand their factory around an oak tree has served them well in terms of providing ventilation for their employees at a time when it is more important than ever.

Profit oriented, but not at any cost!

As we have covered in previous episodes, sustainability does not come at the cost of profit. The Tratos approach is to ensure that profitability exists, they are quality driven not price driven but this is a conscious decision that allows their product to be more sustainable.

In addition the attitude toward staff is enviable, Maurizio explains how the people within Tratos are the most valuable asset and this is felt throughout the business. 95% of all employees who start their career at Tratos, end their career at Tratos. This is an incredible statistic!

We hear about how Tratos use the fact they are a family business as a competitive advantage. The stability and long term views that family businesses enjoy help them to work with other family owned businesses with the same values and viewpoints.

Maurizio also speaks about the importance of organisations such as the Institute for Family Business, who provide an environment for people to speak openly about the challenges they are facing.
